Conservation & Threats

Many species of the Porites genus is heavily coveted for the aquarium trade, particularly in Indonesia.  While this coral is not as susceptible to bleaching as many other coral species (for example, Acropora corals are very sensitive to temperature changes) (IUCN, 2012).  However, disease presents a large portion of mortality for these corals (IUCN, 2012).
